LASER PEENING PATENT INFRINGEMENT LAWSUIT UPDATE

On July 2, 2012, Metal Improvement Company filed a third Request for Reexamination with the USPTO, again asking that the USPTO reexamine all of the claims of the ’876 patent in light of various printed publications submitted by MIC in the third Request. As expected, in November 2012, the USPTO issued a Notice of Intent to Issue a Reexamination Certificate, wherein the USPTO once again stated its intent to confirm all 38 of the claims of the ’876 patent in their originally issued form. As a result, all of the originally issued claims of the ’876 patent remain valid and enforceable.


Laser Peening Patent Infringement Lawsuit Update

On May 11, 2011 MIC filed a second Request for Reexamination with the USPTO, again asking that the USPTO reexamine all of the claims of the ‘876 patent in light of various printed publications and affidavits submitted by MIC in the second Request. As expected, on January 17, 2012, the USPTO issued a Notice of Intent to Issue a Reexamination Certificate, wherein the USPTO once again stated its intent to confirm all 38 of the claims of the ‘876 patent in their originally issued form. As a result, all of the originally issued claims of the ‘876 patent remain valid and enforceable – LSP Technologies.

 


LSP Technologies Licenses General Electric’s Laser Peening Patent Portfolio

LSP Technologies, Inc. is pleased to announce that it recently entered into a patent cross-license agreement with GE.  As a result of the cross-license, LSPT became the sole production-based licensee of GE’s entire laser peening patent portfolio, which includes more than 50 U.S. and foreign issued patents and numerous pending patent applications.  LSPT also became the sole production-based licensee of the coveted “GEN 4” laser peening technology, a relatively low power, high throughput laser peening technology that will revolutionize the laser peening industry.

LSPT’s laser peening customers can breathe easier knowing that LSPT is contractually permitted to process parts using GE’s extensive laser peening patent portfolio.  This exciting new development will allow LSPT to continue to be the premier provider of high quality, efficient, and value driven laser peening production services for many years to come.


LSP Technologies files patent-infringement suit against MIC

On June 8, 2010, LSP Technologies, Inc. filed suit against Metal Improvement Company (MIC) for patent infringement.  The suit was filed in federal court in the southern district of Ohio.  The patent in suit is patent number 6,373,876 and is specifically related to laser peening system technology.


LSP Technologies files patent-infringement suit

On January 14, 2008, LSP Technologies, Inc. filed suit against Continuum Electro-Optics, Inc. for infringement of two of its patents: 5,127,019 and 6,191,385. The suit was filed in federal court in the southern district of Ohio. After initial discovery, a third patent (6,373,876) was added to the suit in November 2008.  All three patents are related to laser peening technology.
