Laser peening prevents crack initiation and retards crack growth. Inhibiting crack initiation and growth significantly increases component fatigue life.  Laser peening is a non-contact fatigue improvement method that utilizes highly controlled and tailored stress waves generated by a pulsed laser.  The process does not require high-impact shot media or burnishing balls to impart beneficial compressive stresses into metal components.  Laser peening increases metal parts’ resistance to deterioration and failure by enhancing fatigue life and damage tolerance.  As a surface treatment for metal fatigue improvement, laser peening provides superior results when compared to alternative peening technologies, and is a well-established method to improve the fatigue life and strength of metals.

LSPT’s facility includes three laser peening systems paired with laser peening work cells.  Two of our peening cells are equipped with 6-axis robots capable of efficiently handling your process development and production requirements.
